Over the last months, there have been many shifts in my life. I actually had the feeling when 2018 begun, that it was going to be a year filled lots of changes. In a good way. Like many of you know, we recently moved to Sonoma County. Dylan started a new job and I have some upcoming projects for Love Inside & Out that I can’t wait to share more of soon.
The two things that I love talking, learning, sharing, and researching the MOST in general and on this blog are all things wellness and beauty. These are two of my biggest passions and are truly the two topics I feel like I could learn about for my whole life and never get bored. To clarify, I am passionate about finding the absolute best wellness & beauty products/ beauty tips and tricks that can help us FEEL and look our best. It TRULY lights up my day when I receive a message from one of you letting me know that you have fallen in love with a product I’ve recommended.
About a month ago, I was hanging out with my friend Christina who was telling me about a company she LOVES called Beautycounter. Christina is a food blogger, and is someone I’ve looked up to over the last few years because of how knowledgeable she is about nutrition, non-toxic beauty, and just about everything within the realm of wellness. We were talking about blogging, health, wellness, etc. and she started telling me about one of her favorite non-toxic beauty brands called Beautycounter.
I had heard of this company before but had never tried their products. Christina ended up sending me some products to try and much to my surprise, I fell in LOVE with them. As you know, I’m someone who is constantly trying new products because of my job as a blogger. I’m always testing different things in an attempt to bring only the best of the best to my blog and to show you guys! After being very pleasantly surprised with how effective and lux the products were, I dove into research about the company to learn more and was SHOCKED at what I learned.
As someone who has had health-related issues due to environmental factors, it’s become a huge passion of mine to seek out a healthy lifestyle. I spend so much time making sure I’m nourishing my body with healthy foods, exercising, sleeping well, etc. I have a healthy lifestyle blog for goodness sakes!!
Did you know that there are thousands of TOXIC chemicals in our skincare, personal care, makeup, and beauty products that are directly linked to things like cancer, reproductive issues, & hormone imbalances? I SURE DIDN’T! Did you know that the U.S. hasn’t passed a major law on what ingredients are allowed in these products since 1938?! CRAZY! As I was doing my research, I wondered, HOW can this be the case?!?!
I also learned that many of the beauty brands I’ve known and loved for years, have some not-so beautiful ingredients hiding inside many of their products. I read something on the Beautycounter website that really stood out to me “if you had the choice of putting toxic chemicals on your body that can greatly affect health OR could use a line that works just as well (if not better) as all those toxic lines, which would you choose.” This statement REALLY hit home for me and I started to ask myself, why????
My answer was that I just wasn’t informed. Until I started using Beautycounter and dove into the research, I always kind of figured that I was in the clear because I drink green smoothies and exercise regularly. I now know that it isn’t enough, that we also need to make the choice to pay attention to the ingredients we’re using on our faces, bodies, etc. Since our skin is the largest organ, SO MUCH of what we put on it, is directly absorbed into our bloodstream.
I also learned that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime. Many of these cancers are linked to environmental factors, meaning that skincare, beauty products, household items, and personal care products are all very serious risk factors. As someone who has this in their family history, this really hit home with me. I’ve made it one of new missions, to start spreading this knowledge because I know now that these aren’t well know facts.
The European Union bans, 1,300 ingredients from it’s beauty products while the US, 33. Staggering, I know. There are over 80,000 chemicals on the market today and only 10% of those have been tested for human safety. It’s INSANITY.
Now that you know all the dirty details on the beauty industry, I want to tell you about the POSITIVE side of all this.
We have a choice!!! This might sounds cheesy but it is the truth. This is the reason that I decided to become a Consultant with Beautycounter. I have quickly become very passionate about the mission of getting safer beauty into the hands of everyone and educating friends, family, and loved ones on this topic. What being a Consultant means is that I get to represent Beautycounter, share this mission, and basically be a go-to gal for all the Beautycounter products. It means I can answer questions, recommend skincare (just my favorite thing ever), and get the products into your hands if you are interested!
Beautycounter has banned over 1,500 toxic ingredients from it’s “never list” of things that they will NEVER put in their products. They have extremely high standards and their products are so good you wouldn’t even know they are non-toxic. They have Skin & Body Care lines, Kids, and Makeup that are completely safe AND effective. I like to think of the brand as Whole Foods meets Chanel.
Like I said, I have fallen IN LOVE with this line… The products really are almost too good to be true! I’ve been using their haircare, skincare, and pieces of the makeup line and can’t wait to continue adding more and more of the products into my home.

- Shop Beautycounter & other non-toxic beauty lines. It doesn’t have to happen all at once. Start slowly and begin to transition to a safer household. I’m happy to make recommendations on a few products that are a great place to start!
2. Spread the word! Since I learned the above knowledge, I haven’t been able to shut up about it. If you feel that way, tell your family members and loved ones about some of the things they are putting on their bodies.

Just to clarify, I am not going fully non-toxic for the time being. I’m not a huge fan of labels or the pressure that comes with them, but will be adding in more non-toxic products as I run out of things, creating a healthier body, home, and life. I think it’s so important to know that it doesn’t have to happen overnight!! Small, attainable changes are what this blog is all about. Progress over perfection. 🙂
