Two things that I’m very much a believer in & a fan of are healthy skin and teeth. Skin and teeth are the two things I like to take extra care of, because I always feel most confident when I do so!
I’ve also pretty much always been obsessed with brushing my teeth. So much so that I had to re-train myself how to brush them as to not damage my gums from brushing too hard, ha (another story for another time).The questions I’ve been asked the most as of recently are also about teeth, so I figured today’s post absolutely needed to give the full breakdown of my oral care routine (did that sound awkward??).
Let me tell you, I have not always been a pro in the teeth whitening department. Back in high school, there were definitely a few times where I would go to bed with crest white strips on and wake up with the world’s most SENSITIVE teeth! It was not my shining moment, let me tell you… however, the routine I use now is much healthier and has proven effective in maintaining a white smile. So, let’s get into it!!
Switching over to this thing has definitely been a TOTAL game changer. I visited my dentist a few months ago and they told me that I needed to be a bit more gentle when brushing my teeth because it was hurting my gums (like I mentioned above). Like I also mentioned above, I love teeth and really care about maintaining my smile. When the dentist recommended me getting a Sonicare, I basically ran home, hopped on Amazon and ordered this one as fast as I could. I believe it was during the Thanksgiving holiday so it was even on sale. Currently, its on’y $39 dollars and will be the BEST thing you do for your teeth. As someone who loves to brush often, this is the way to go because it keeps smiles white, clean, and healthy without hurting gums from brushing often. To clarify, I usually brush three times per day!
It helps to brighten up those pearly whites and also makes sure you’re brushing for the full two minutes everytime. I am very much into this toothbrush and the fact that it’s pink also doesn’t hurt. (;
2. Oil Pulling
Have you heard of it?! I feel like it was all the rage about two years ago when coconut oil was a big trend, but this is one wellness fad that’s here to stay! It’s very much worth the hype when done consistently and I notice a huge difference in the whiteness of my teeth when I do this daily. In case you haven’t heard, some benefits of oil pulling are that it can decrease plaque, whiten teeth, flush out toxins, improve of skin conditions (like acne), improve hormone imbalances, and more! While these benefits are all sounding pretty amazing, the main ones I notice are that doing it for 15 minutes per day makes my teeth whiter and lessens the amount of plaque on them.
You might also be wondering how to go about oil pulling? Well, it’s very simple and to the point. All you do is scoop out a spoonful of organic, cold-pressed, non-GMO coconut oil and swish it around in your mouth for 15-20 minutes. A good time to do so is while you’re doing dishes, cleaning the house, getting ready for bed, etc.
3. Sensodyne Whitening Toothpaste
My third tip for a healthy and white smile is Sensodyne Whitening Toothpaste. For a while there, I tried to make the shift over to natural toothpaste and will probably attempt this again in the future. However, my dentist talked me into going back to Sensodyne because of all the sensitivity I was having. At the end of the day, I care most about the health of my smile and love the way Sensodyne brightens it up without being harsh. Again, I like to brush often and that can be difficult with lots of the whitening toothpastes out there! I love how gentle this one is. Also another random tip for you– don’t use Crest Toothpaste!! I learned from an esthetician a few years ago that some ingredient in Crest Toothpaste can make you breakout along the chin area. NO thank you! I actually tested it out about a year ago, and sure enough an unwanted pimple showed up on my chin.
I hope this post was helpful for you guys! I actually just opened up a a jar of a natural charcoal teeth whitener and I’ll let you know how I like that!
Off to get my oil pulling in for the day. (;
