Boy oh boy, do I have a skin HACK to share with you today. Let me introduce you to my trusty new skincare fave– the konjac sponge. This post is specifically for my beauties on a budget who love to prioritize skin and skincare habits. I first tried a konjac sponge about 6 months ago when my friend who owns a health food store gave one to me. She literally put one in my purse and wouldn’t let me pay for it– insisting that I needed to try it. Mind you, they are very inexpensive ($10), so I would have bought one anyway! After trying this little miracle sponge for months at a time, I knew I needed to bring it to the blog and let the secret OUT.
What exactly is a konjac sponge?
“The Japanese Konjac Sponge is a 100% natural facial and body cleansing sponge made from vegetable fibers of Konjac (Konnyaku). … This 100% natural sponge has a soft texture making it gentle, safe and will not scratch skin while washing away dirt and oil from skin.” Essentially, you use it in the shower or sink with your cleanser to wash your face. I have explained it to friends and family members as the “alternative to a skincare brush, like this one. However, you are saving about $190 dollars by using this little miracle sponge to wash that beautiful face.
Essentially, they deep clean in a few simple steps.
How do I use it and what does it do?
To use, just get the sponge wet, allowing it to expand. Give the sponge a squeeze to release excess water and then add your cleanser. From there, use the sponge to gently wash your face in circular motions. Once cleansed, rinse out the sponge and hang it to air-dry over night.
They are wonderful for removing makeup and creating a glowing/ fresh complexion! You will notice that your skin feels more radiant and soft with use, especially over time.
“The konjac sponge works to gently exfoliate your skin, sloughing away dead skin cells, giving skin a smooth, glowy complexion. And the more you use the sponge, the more pronounced the effects will be. Just don’t expect the crazy-glowing skin you’d get from a peel or a really good facial.” You can also use them on the rest of the body, especially if you’re on the hunt for extra exfoliation!
How do I clean my Konjac sponge after using it as a skin brush?
Simply soak the sponge in hot water for 5 minutes to disinfect! Make sure to avoid boiling water as it will deform the sponge. Finally, hang the sponge to dry as needed!
Finally, I wanted to point out that different colors of the sponges have different active ingredients so you can choose one that meets your skincare needs. My favorites so far include the red (red clay) and black (charcoal)!
Happy face washing!!!
