Hi Babes!
Let’s talk makeup! Specifically, non-toxic makeup (the best kind in my personal opinion). As you might know, my passion for non-toxic products has continued to blossom over the last 6 months. If you haven’t read my previous posts chatting about non-toxic skincare products & why I made the switch to safer products, they can be found here & here. Honestly, after learning about all the crazy chemicals that are PACKED into our personal care products, I haven’t looked back. I mean, how can you learn that products we are willingly using are directly linked to things like cancer and infertility and NOT do anything?! I’ve cleaned up a bunch of my products- think makeup, haircare, skincare, etc. I am genuinely so passionate about bringing to light the fact that there are products out there that not only work so well and make us feel beautiful, but also don’t have tons of nasty crap in them. At this time, I’m not fully nontoxic but definitely have made huge shifts in switching over to many safer products! It all about awareness & mindfulness in regards to what we put on and in our bodies so we can make an educated decision. You know?
Today I want to share with you my everyday makeup routine that’s chalk full of my favorite nontoxic makeup products. This is the look that you see me wearing in most of my photos! I’ve never been one to get too crazy with my makeup in the sense that I wear this look pretty often, ha! If I’m going out in the evening, I’ll add a bolder lip or throw on some false eyelashes to make the look a little more “nighttime.” OR if I’m shooting photos in a certain light, I’ll add more bronzer and highlight to contour a bit more.
Most of the products in my routine are from Beautycounter (the nontoxic beauty company I’m a consultant for) & a few are from other brands. Excited to share them with you below! Ok so here’s what I use, love, and recommend–
Beautycounter Protect Stick Face Sunscreen
This stuff is my current go-to for a nontoxic facial sunscreen! It’s easy to apply because it’s a stick. I use it down my neck, on my face, & hands. Do your future self a favor and don’t forget about applying sunscreen to the hands and neck!!
Beautycounter Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation (Linen)
This foundation has quickly become a staple in my makeup routine. When I receive questions about how to get “dewy”skin, this stuff is my answer!! It contains sodium hyaluronate, a natural moisture magnet, to promote smoother-looking skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It quite literally plumps the skin, which I always appreciate. It’s the very first step in my foundation routine and also the only product I wear when I want a lighter coverage or a “no-makeup” makeup look.
Vita Liberata Body Blur (Medium)
I’ve recently been mixing a tiny bit of this into my Beautycounter Tint Skin & LOVE the effect. It takes that dewy glow to the next step and makes me feel extra tan. The amount that I mix into my foundation depends on how tan I am/ want my face to be. Try this stuff in combination with the Tint Skin and you will be so impressed the the glow effect.
Jane Iredale Powder Foundation (Amber)
This powder foundation has been in my routine for YEARS. I always recommend it for people who like a full coverage foundation. I use it after mixing the above two and applying to my face. This is what gives me the matte finish that I love but isn’t too heavy so it still let’s the above two products shine through. I have very oily skin so this stuff does the trick with controlling oil and keeping me glowy but not greasy.
Beautycounter Mattifying Powder
I use this completely translucent powder to set my under eye concealer! A little bit goes a long way with this powder so it will last you a long time. I simply dab a bit on my Beauty Blender and “bake” my under-eyes like all those cool youtubers out there, LOL. But really, this keeps the under-eye concealer in place. p.s I haven’t found a concealer I like that’s non-toxic yet! Do you have a favorite? LMK!!
Beautycounter Matte Bronzer (No. 1)
The next step after foundation is bronzer! I LOVE this bronzer. I had heard my friend Christina rave about it for a year or so on her IG and am so glad I finally switched to it. I have to say, it is better than any toxic bronzer I’ve tried. I used to use Tarte and this stuff is WAY better. I prefer a matte bronzer and love the color of this one& way it blends SO well. This is what I use to “contour.”
Beautycounter Blush (Bloom/ Tulip)
Ok ok so this is my favorite blush I’ve ever tried. Hands down. Something about the color is just so fresh and pretty and also pairs well with the above bronzer. If you like to keep blush natural, this is for you. I really want to try the other shades of this Beautycounter blush because I’ve been so impressed with it. They are duo blush colors so it’s actually two colors for one! I like to blend them together though. 🙂
Beautycounter Eyeshadow (Pearl/ Champagne) for Highlighter
This is my go-to highlighter which is funny because it’s actually an eyeshadow!! None the less, it WORKS and is the prettiest color. I apply it to my cheekbones, brim of my nose, bottom of my nose, above my lip/ cupids bow area, & under my brows. I use a Micro Highlighting Brush which can be found here.
Beautycounter Volumizing Mascara (Black)
This mascara is the nontoxic version of those commercials where the lashes look SUPER long, lol. My friend Christina and I have an ongoing debate talking about which mascara we like better from Beautycounter. I think currently I’m leaning towards this one because it really plumps up those lashes. As you might know, lots of nontoxic mascaras aren’t so great. For this reason, I was pumped to find this one! It works well and doesn’t get clumpy with multiple coats.
Beautycounter Lengthening Mascara (Black)
When I want my lashes to be extra long and plump, I blend the two of these mascaras together. However, if you’re only going to get one, I recommend the Volumizing (above).
Beautycounter Color Define Brow Pencil (Medium)
THIS BROW PENCIL. There is legit no noticeable difference between the way this one works and something like an Anastascia Pencil. SCORE!! #Nontoxic for the win!! I like to use shade Medium because I love a bold brow.
Jane Iredale Brow Gel (Blonde)
I use this Brow Gel and have for years as a way to set my pencil in place. OR on days where I’m wearing super minimal makeup, I’ll just use this with no brow pencil under.
Beautycounter Lip Sheers (current favorite shades are Currant, Petal, & Rose)
These are the three main lip colors I’ve been wearing in lots of posts, photos, videos, etc. recently. They are sheer, buildable, and natural. They do a great job of conditioning the lips and providing great pigment! I love to blend the shades “Rose” and “Currant” together to get a really pretty hue.
Jane Iredale Naturally Matte Eyeshadow Kit
This is a great pallet for a natural eye. 99.9% of the time I like to keep my eye-makeup natural and go wish a grayish/ brownish shade on my lid and then blend it out. There’s a pallet called the Beautycounter Ultimate Nudes Eyeshadow Pallet that I’ve also heard rave reviews about and want to try soon.
Beautycounter Eyeliner Pencil (Black)
There’s nothing too fancy here, just a black eyeliner pencil. I use it to thinly line the outer part of my eyelid. I like to keep it minimal on the eyeliner & this pencil does the trick! It stays in place & doesn’t run.
Whewph! Lots of info here! All in all, if you are wanting to switch over a few of your makeup products for nontoxic products, I recommend trying out Beautycounter’s Flawless In Five. This is a $150 way to switch out FIVE of the most commonly used toxic makeup products. This deal includes blush, foundation, eyeliner, mascara, & lip gloss.
OR if I had to recommend my absolute favorites from the above makeup routine, I would say the Tint Skin & Body Blur combo with Jane Iredale Powder on top, Bronzer, Blush, Eyeshadow as a highlighter, Mascara, & Lip Sheers. It is hard to pick though because they’re all such great products.
