My Look: Top | Pants | Sunnies | Shoes
I’m currently sitting down at my desk, scarfing down my HUGE salad with extra cashews & a side of cashew cheese, lol. I just got home from the gym, which is perfect timing because today’s post is all about my current fitness routine! After getting questions pretty often over on Instagram DM’s about what the workout videos are I’ve been posting, I figured it was time to bring all the deets to the blog! I’ve talked about working out & body positivity many times before. You can find some of the post here & here!
Before I get into all the details about my current workout routine, I want to talk a little bit about my fitness/ exercise philosophy. You can also read more about how I healed my relationship to exercise here.
The thing I think is MOST important to keep in mind when choosing an exercise routine is picking one you genuinely love. If you’ve never actually found an exercise you love before, you might be thinking “okay this Taylor girl is CRAZYYY.” Before you close this post, hear me out. Exercise can be walking your dog for an hour. It can be boxing, running, yoga, pilates, weights, HIIT, & the list goes on. Just because I’m about to share my current exercise routine (that I’ve been loving) with you, defffff doesn’t mean that you should feel pressure to do it too. Honestly, exercise is one of my favorite ways to destress and wind down after a long day. I legitimately look so forward to going to the gym because it’s my “me time.” As I’m writing this, I’m realizing that I think the reason I look so forward to going to the gym is because I always give myself a choice to do so. If I’m not feeling well & feel that it’s better to take time off, I don’t go to the gym. And you know what? I DON’T feel guilty for it or apologize. I never force myself in a way that isn’t loving or treat exercise as a form of punishment. I say all of these things, because I definitely know what it’s like to treat exercise as a form of punishment or to not have the best relationship with exercise. It’s a terrible feeling to feel like you have to force yourself to workout for X hours or else X is going to happen. If you can relate to feeling this way, read this post.
Ok ok, now that we’re on the same page, let’s get into the goods! My current fitness routine that I’ve been seriously LOVING is called BBG Sweat. It was created by an Australian trainer, Kayla Itsines. I’m obsessed with it because it’s literally the most efficient workout I’ve ever done. The layout of the 20 week plan is SO well organized and is complete with videos of the exact moves you do. The workouts are 27 minutes and it’s 2 different circuits repeated in seven minute increments. Literally by the time you are feeling super exhausted, you’re done! It doesn’t drag on because it’s only 27 minutes! The 27 minute days are called “resistance” days which happen 3 days per week. There’s a leg day (it KILLS ME), arms/ abs, and full-body day. Then on the off days, the BBG guide encourages you to walk for 35 minutes with an option of HIIT running. It’s seriously so crazy HOW great of a workout you can fit into 27 minutes. The first few weeks of the workout I was so sore I could barely walk up the stairs, but like in a good way HA. I’m currently on week 8 of the plan and am feeling really strong. One of the main things I’ve noticed is that it’s helping me to feel stronger in my shoulders and upper body which is something that’s hard for me. The workouts are very challenging but you feel SO amazing afterwards. It truly feels like you’ve climbed a mountain in 27 minutes!
I typically will bring my iPad to the gym and play my BBG workout on it while blasting music on my phone but you can also play it on your phone! Back when we lived in the OC, I used to sometimes do BBG at home in my office. Before each workout, you can go through the moves to see what equipment is required. I will say that the exercises are mostly body weight though! Some things that the BBG workouts use often are weights, a jump rope, a mat, & kettlebell. All things you can snag at target. (;
Finally, my favorite thing about BBG by Kayla is the fact that it’s a REALISTIC approach to exercise!!! It’s a guide that doesn’t require you to be in the gym for 2 hours every day. It’s perfect for the busy girl on the go that loves to get a good sweat in but also has 12983712 other things to do. You can do it in the gym, in the yard, in your office, ANYWHERE. I feel like it’s the perfect busy girl workout. There’s also a free week if you are interested in trying it out!
Have you ever tried BBG??? If so, what week are you on?!?! Tell me all about it!
