CRYOTHERAPY
Hi lovely people!
If you follow along on Instagram, you saw that Dylan and I tried Cryotherapy for the first time this week! I’ve honestly wanted to try this crazy ice chamber madness for QUITE a while now & was so pumped to finally try it!! Thanks to the folks at OC Cryosport for having us and being so friendly and awesome!
Pretty cool (literally HA)– this studio is the first to have their own traveling “cryo-van” that brings the wellness to you!! I definitely would be down for a bachelorette party or house warming party with the cryo-van in attendance. So up my ally!
Anyways, lets chat– what exactly is Cryotherapy????
Well, Cryotherapy is a treatment that has been around since the 17th century! In today’s world it’s basically stepping into a chamber (looks a bit like a tanning bed) for a maximum of 180 seconds where you experience subzero temperatures created by nitrogen chilled air. The levels in the chamber drop from a -190 to -260 degrees Fahrenheit. Sounds scary, but I PROMISE it isn’t!
What exactly happens when you’re in the Cryo chamber?
“The extreme cold you’re exposed to triggers the skin’s sensors, which activates a response from your Central Nervous System. In actuality, the body “thinks” it is freezing and goes into survival mode, delivering blood to the core to protect your vital organs.”
& THEN the really freaking cool part–
“Your blood collects oxygen and nutrients, and when you step out of the chamber this oxygen rich blood flows back through the body and your extremities, flushing out toxins and boosting circulation.”
Okay, now that you’ve heard the technical terms, let me tell you about my experience! And I have to say, I was pretty nervous before getting into the cryo machine. Basically, they have you put on a warm robe along with fluffy socks to keep your feet warm. Then, they turn on the machine and you head on in!
Once you get in, you take off your robe and let the freezing begin! Since this was my first time trying it, I decided to only stay in for 1 minute. Honestly, that minute went by so fast because I was talking to the staff and laughing with Dylan. Only your head sticks out of the chamber so it’s a pretty funny sight. After a minute (or up to 3 mins) the time is up and you put your robe back on and you’re all DONE! It’s a very quick process!
So, here’s how I felt post Cryo–
Right after getting my robe back on, I experienced this AMAZING ENDORPHIN RUSH and I instantly understood why people love this so much. I literally felt like I had run 10+ miles. Such a great feeling! This high continued for the rest of the afternoon into the evening and then around 6pm I got really really relaxed and sleepy and did something I haven’t done in the LONGEST time. I NAPPED! This was not just any nap either… I napped for 2 hours, woke up to have dinner, and went back to sleep for a solid 9 hours, and then woke up today feeling so RESTED! I am not someone who typically takes naps throughout the day, so I have to chalk this up to the Cyro! Pretty darn cool how much of an affect it had on my nervous system.
Now let’s talk the 5 TOP BENEFITS CRYO can have-
- Decreases inflammation.
- Heals muscle soreness.
- Reduces stress and anxiety (this one really impacted me)!
- Promotes a healthy immune system and immune system function.
- Promotes a faster metabolism and weight loss.
All in all, I loved the experience. It was quick, easy, and I had an an incredible enrgy high followed by a killer nap and night of sleep. I’m planning on going back for a few weeks in a row but wanted to give you guys my initial thoughts on the process.
Have you guys tried Cryo?! I would love to hear your thoughts and if you love it/ dislike it. If you’re in OC, be sure to check out OC Cryosport!
P.S. I am smiling SOOOO big in all of these photos because I was on a major endorphin HIGH post cryo session!! In the photos before I tried it, I think I’m smiling because I’m nervous. (;
