Hi Friends!
Fall is in the air! Now that summer has officially come to and end and we are moving towards winter, I want to share some of the things I’ve been doing to give my skin some extra R&R. Towards the end of August, my skin was looking a little tired. During our summer travels, I was in the sun much more than usual! While I always wear sunscreen, I still noticed that my skin had some extra sun damage along my forehead and just had more discoloration than usual. It wasn’t really bothering me while I wore makeup, but was getting on my nerve when I wasn’t. I am all about skincare prevention and care as well as taking care of my skin while I’m young so I figured this was the perfect time to invest in a chemical peel.
Mind you, I haven’t had a chemical peel in about ten years. I had this bad experience while I was in high school where I got a peel about a week before prom and my entire face was peeling off like a lizard shedding it’s skin, HA. It wasn’t pretty and I remember carrying Vaseline (lol) around with me to school and to the dance!! After speaking to the sweet office staff at the Dermatology Associates of The Bay Area office, I felt much better about moving forward with a peel and very hopeful about the skin benefits! Bring on that fresh fall skin, I thought. I had a consultation over the phone where we discussed with way my skin was feeling after a little too much sun. I was able to openly share with them my fear of peels after what happened to me in high school and they were so sweet and accommodating!
We decided to go with a Mandelic Acid Peel from Glytone.
This is a super gentle peel and is basically known as a “starter peel” or “the lunchtime peel.” This is because there is virtually no downtime and you won’t be spending a lot of time recovering from the peel. For me, there was no recovery time! A Mandelic Peel “reduces the appearance of skin redness, reduces pore size, improves skin texture/ tone, improves skin smoothness, minimizes mild chrono – or photo-aging and mild hyper pigmentation.” The whole process only took about 20 minutes and was incredible pleasant. I was super impressed with the staff at the office in Petaluma because they went above and beyond to answer all of my questions and make me feel comfortable.
Now let’s get into the results and peel process! To start out my appointment, the staff led me though a skin analysis and consultation to look at my skin under this machine that picks up on ALL the damage that’s beneath the surface. You can check that out in my Instagram Post here. It was insane to see the sun damage even though I always wear sunscreen and a hat when I’m outside!! They said it could be from just living in California and being exposed to more sun that a person in another state. After seeing the damage, we picked the Mandelic Peel and got started. The actual peel process was so easy and quick. What drew me to the Mandelic Peel was that they said my skin would be glowy and healthy looking right after! I love to see immediate results and was so happy to see them following this process. After the peel, my skin felt very hydrated and plump. I had a pimple area and it also brightened that up.
The next few days following the peel, my skin continued to get smoother, cleaner, and almost “tighter” feeling. My forehead has literally never been so smooth and tight! This whole process totally changed my opinion on peels and the fact that they don’t need to be painful and uncomfortable. The aftercare included Glytone’s Soothing Lipid Recovery Cream and a gentle cleanser which I already had. I didn’t peel at all but my skin felt noticeably brighter and more plump in the days and weeks after the peel. I am now about two weeks out from the peel and my skin is still feeling much better than before! I honestly can’t wait to do this peel again and maybe even a more intense one now that I’m comfortable!
If you are in Sonoma County, I highly recommend visiting Dermatology Associates of The Bay Area office as they were wonderful! If you are interested in checking out Glytone’s Mandelic Peel (the lunchtime peel), learn more here!
SO, have you ever done a peel before? What was your experience like?! I can’t wait to go back for another and am hoping to add them into my regular routine as the price is very affordable for what you get.
Thank you to Glytone for sponsoring this post, as always all opinions are my own.
