Happy Thursday Friends!
It’s CRAZY that it’s already been two months since we got engaged!! I can’t believe that! Today I wanted to share with you the story of our engagement and the story of “how he asked.” Excuse me while I get a little sappy!! If you aren’t in the mood for sap, I totally understand and have zero hard feelings, lol.
Let’s just say that I wanted to get engaged for what felt like a long time. When Dylan and I started dating, things got serious really quickly and we actually moved in together after just 4 months of dating!! Yes, you probably think we’re crazy and we definitely were. I am a big believer in the whole “when you know, you know” thing. It absolutely was the case for us. In many ways, it was wonderful to meet and fall in love at the end of school but in other ways we do think it would have been “easier” if we were a bit older. We had NO idea what we would do for our careers, where we would live (he moved me back from Nashville to California), but knew that we needed to be together. Before I go down memory lane too much, I want to be 1000% real with you guys.
Before getting engaged, I was so antsy to get ENGAGED and to move on to that step in life. The main reason behind why was because I felt that the words “boyfriend and girlfriend” didn’t really do our relationship justice. We have always known that this would be a “forever” kind of thing but wanted to wait for a certain point in our lives and careers before taking that big step. I was sick of people not taking our relationship seriously because we weren’t engaged. No one in particular, just in general. If you are in a serious relationship and feel this way, I want to let you know you aren’t alone. Before our engagement, I had really stopped talking about getting married because (again) I wanted to let things happen in God’s timing rather than trying to FORCE my own timing. This is a theme for my life, ha! What I really want to get across is that it is so important not to compare your own life to other people on the internet because you never know the back story! Everyone moves at different paces in life and it’s all beautiful and part of the plan. Whatever you are yearning for, it will happen when it’s meant to happen.
Now let’s get into the FUN part, how he asked!
A good blogger friend of mine, Katie, had planned a weekend trip to Sonoma County. She lives in OC and it was her first time coming to visit Sonoma County. We had this planned for a few months and were so excited to spend the weekend together with a full itinerary of plans! For this reason, I really didn’t expect Dylan to propose on the day that he did. However, I DID think maybe it would be coming soon because he was acting soooo weird for about two weeks. I could feel his nervous energy whenever he would even walk into the room! My intuition said maybe a proposal was coming but I didn’t really listen into it too much because I didn’t want to get my hopes up incase it didn’t happen.
On the morning of our proposal, I drove into SF to get Katie from the airport. We started off our girl’s weekend with cute coffee shops, lunch, and some shopping. When Katie and I are together, we’re always taking photos for our blogs and she made up this elaborate story about why we needed to get to the Golden Gate Bridge overlook by 2pm because there would be an event happened and we needed to get photos beforehand? Katie is always spot on with planning like this so I believed her and didn’t ask questions! We drove through crazy SF traffic to get to the bridge photo spot and started taking some photos. Her phone started to ring with a call she said she had to get. I turned around to see Dylan walking up to me after he told me he would be working all afternoon… We live about an hour from the city so I was surprised to see him!! I started asking him why and a million questions about how his day was and why he was there and he started getting tears in his eyes and shaking, haha. At this point I think I realized he was about to propose and HONESTLY, blacked out. LOL. I am not even making that up or exaggerating.
I completely forget what he said when he asked me to marry him, which you can tell by looking ay MY FACE in these photos. I was shocked!! All I know is I said YES and jumped on him.
After he said all those sweet words that I blacked out for, Katie took photos and I honestly couldn’t stop laughing and smiling. I always thought I would cry but NOPE! No tears…yet.
Following the proposal, he suggested we go and get a drink at Cavallo Point. Cavallo Point is this insanely beautiful restaurant, bar, and inn right by the bridge in San Fran. I highly recommend it if you haven’t been and live in California or are visiting. We walk into Cavallo Point and ALL of my very closest girlfriends from all around the country are sitting there!! CUE THE TEARS. I think I blacked out again and just remember being SO happy to see all my besties and looking down at the ring on my finger. It was honestly one of the best afternoons of my life because it was such a sweet surprise. They had all flown in so we stayed locally at The Westin on Union Square in San Fran. Let’s just say there was a lot of champagne flowing all afternoon and evening!
I couldn’t have asked for a more thoughtful proposal from my sweet fiancé and am SO excited to be his wife. I’m excited for wedding planning (not that I’ve done anything yet, ha) but mainly excited to be married to my best friend. It truly feels like how it was supposed to be all along and also feels like nothing has changed at the same time.
Because we did want to get engaged for a while, we aren’t rushing the wedding planning!! We truly want to soak in this season of engagement and enjoy every minute of being an engaged couple. Most likely we will have a longer engagement but who knows! I will absolutely keep you guys posted with wedding planning details and will share the process here as we go.
Thank you for the sweet words of encouragement and for caring about our relationship. I love you so much and am grateful for this community every day!
