My Look:
Cottage Decor:
Hi Friends!
I’ve been excited to bring you this blog post! Today I’ll be sharing a peak into the cottage that we recently moved into. I am such a huge fan of decorating and love making a house (especially since we are renting) feel like home. I hope that this post can be a bit of #inspo for those of you who are in the process of decorating small spaces. Renting in CA can be crazyyyy (overpriced) but finding the right decor can help a lot in making a new space feel like home!!
It was a total blast taking these photos because Dylan & I got to be in them together! Usually, it’s just me behind the lens and him taking the photos for our posts, so anytime we get to be in photos together it’s so much fun! Stephanie Hopkins, a local Sonoma County photographer, came over last Monday and made all of our cottage photo dreams come true. Her website can be found here and you can find her on Instagram here!
All of the home decor items in this post can be shopped via the photos or the links below. I would say that my decor is a mix of antiques passed down from my family members like my Grandmother with modern day touches. I am OBSESSED with places like Home Goods, Target, & TJ Max because you can buy items like trendy pillows, fake plants, candles, blankets, and more– all for great prices! In my person opinion, I would rather invest in furniture that I know we will have for years to come and then buy the trendier pieces (like my pillows) for less money. It all evens out that way!
One of my biggest tips for decorating a small space or just in general is to get started on it right away! There’s something to be said about going right to work decorating upon moving in. Maybe that’s just me, but I always feel like if I don’t start right away, I will get lazy and let it sit around for way too long. On the first night we moved into this cottage, I stayed up until 4am (LOL). I was so motivated to get things hung that I just couldn’t stop. Thinking I’m crazy? Probably, ha. Then, the next weekend we hung all of our photos and wall art. There really is something to be said about not letting things sit around collecting dust!!
Some of my favorite items in our cottage are linked here, here, here, & here. If you’re feeling like you need to spruce up a home or want a change, I recommend looking at your pillows! That’s always the first place I go for a little inspiration and it’s crazy how much of a difference adding a few statement pillows can make. Another way to change up a room without having to make “major” changes is to add new shelves or wall art! Again, stores like Target & Home Goods have such great selections these days. My other favorite thing to do is to add lots of mirrors in a small home because it creates the illusion of the space being bigger than it actually is. This is what we’ve done in our cottage and it really makes a difference!
What are some of your favorite decorating tips? Do you like decorating as much as I do??
Thanks for stopping by!!
