Hello Friends!
Happy Thanksgiving week!
I’m sitting here writing this post and can barely focus/ contain my excitement because I will be heading home to Northern California to see family tomorrow. As I’m writing this, I bet I’m not the only one who can’t wait to see family and friends. I don’t know about you guys, but Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday. Any holiday that revolves around family and FOOD is one I can really get behind. I love Thanksgiving because it brings family and loved ones together, has an incredible meaning, and is a time where the sometimes added pressures of gift giving are nowhere to be found. It’s a time where loved ones can come together and just BE. In today’s world, I feel like there is so little time dedicated to just being together. We live in a society that supports constantly being “on the go,” so I really appreciate any holiday where loved ones can all sort of “slow down” together.
As I was brainstorming ideas for today’s post, I realized I wanted to write about the 3 things to be grateful for this Thanksgiving. These are 3 things that I’m choosing to focus on that I think you can too. With all that is going on in the world, I think it is incredibly important to continue to focus on the good, as much as we possibly can.
The first thing that I’m choosing to be grateful for is where I currently am in my career. For me, it’s a daily reminder and practice to be grateful for where I am rather than putting added pressure on myself to be “more successful” or “further along.” I know I am exactly where God wants me in this moment. When I need an extra dose of happiness in the current moment, I look back at where I was and what I was doing just a few years ago. I find that this practice brings it into perspective that I don’t need to put all that extra pressure on myself to be further along in my career than I am right now. This isn’t something that always comes naturally to me as I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist, but is something I’m continually working on.
The second thing that I’m choosing to be grateful for this year is the roof over my head. With all the devastation that the fires in Northern California caused for many of my loves one and friends, I’m taking this time to truly find gratitude for the roof over my head. In our busy lives, the days, weeks, and months sometimes rush by. I’ll find myself shocked that a week is almost over and wondering where the time has gone. Taking time daily to meditate on what I am grateful for is a way I like to slow down the time and find my center.
The third thing that I’m choosing to be grateful for this Thanksgiving is HEALTH! I had to capitalize it because man, what an incredible blessing it is to have health on your side. It’s almost like it’s something that you don’t quite appreciate until it isn’t there anymore, don’t you think? As I’ve mentioned before, a few years ago (right around Thanksgiving actually) I was in a place where I didn’t feel healthy in my body. I was tired all the time, I was anxious, and things were majorly out of whack. Due to the help of an amazing hormone specialist, I was able to find balance again. Taking the time to reflect on years past, I am incredibly grateful today that I have my health!
If you’ve gotten to the bottom of this post, I hope you can take a few minutes today to think about the things you are grateful for. Life is definitely filled with ups and downs. Nothing is perfect and no one’s life is perfect! Taking the time to find gratitude is one of the best way’s I’ve found to maintain a positive attitude and is something I have to do on a daily basis. So, what are you most grateful for this year?? I would love to know in the comments!
I hope you guys have an amazing week with lots of food and family time!
