Hey Friends!
I’m writing to you from my official title as co-pilot on a Father- Daughter road trip to Bozeman, Montana. My Dad was down visiting Dylan and me in Orange County this week and now we’re driving together back home to Northern CA for a few days to see my Mom and then hitting the road again for Montana. My little brother lives in Bozeman, Montana and I’ve been itching to visit for the last year of him living there, so I’m super excited to be taking this trip. At first, Dylan and I were planning on going together, but he wasn’t able to get the time off work. So, my Dad and I decided to make a trip together! We will officially be in the car together for 28 hours total, so it’s going to be a lot of bonding time!! LOL. In all seriousness, I don’t remember the last time my Dad and I had a chance to take a trip like this together just the two of us, so I’m really looking forward to it.
Also, I CAN’T wait to check out Montana!!! It seems like the most beautiful and serene place. We’re planning on lots of hiking, camping, and exploring.
Anyways, back to the topic of today’s post!
Today we’re taking skincare; specifically foundation, bb cream, & primer!
One of the things you guys have messaged me about most over on Instagram DM’s recently, (seriously love talking to all of you on DM’s, I feel like we have such a fun crew!!) is what my favorite primers and foundations are. I recently filled you in on my obsession with Tula’s skincare line, so I figured that today it’s only appropriate we talk about the next (super important) step after skincare– foundation.
I told you previously about some of my acne struggles growing up, so you better believe that I’ve tried 1273612 different foundations in the process of clearing up my skin. I’ve tried less-expensive drugstore brands and I’ve tried high end brands from Nordstrom (that are sometimes filled with a bunch of synthetic crap but still cost a small fortune). I feel confident telling you guys that’s I’ve probably tried around twenty (or more) different foundations in my life and only now feel like I’m finally happy with the one I’m using.
Enter, Jane Iredale’s primer (formatted for oily skin), bb cream, and mineral powder foundation! Honestly, this combination is my absolute favorite when it comes to feeling like I have a great amount of coverage but still look natural. What I also love about these products is that they’re NATURAL but you wouldn’t know because they work SO darn well! I’ve been using these three products together for about two years now and know I won’t be switching anytime soon! #obsessed
primer // bb cream // foundation
primer // bb cream // foundation
OK, so let me break these down for you & fill you in on what they do–
Step 1. Facial Primer and Brightener
Did you know that if you aren’t using a primer, you’re missing one of the most important steps in putting your makeup on? Until a few years ago, I wasn’t using a primer either. Then, someone at the makeup store told me that I could actually be wasting my foundation by having to reapply it when it slides off throughout the day. Definitely did not know this before!! They also told me that primer helps to set your foundation which makes it took more natural, blended, and can prevent oily skin from becoming MORE oily throughout the day. AKA what always happens to me!
I love this smooth affair primer because it truly smooths out the skin and creates sort of an even canvas for foundation to be applied. It’s also amazing because it doesn’t clog pores, breakout skin, or create extra oil. It truly keeps my makeup in place longer! Oh & it’s also natural and will last you a long time.
Step 2. Glow Time BB Cream
This baby is the second step in my foundation routine. After applying my primer, I’ll dab about two pea-sized dots of this bb cream on the back of my hand, get my beauty blender wet, and begin to apply evenly to my face. If I have any acne scars I’m trying to cover up, this stuff evens them right out. The coverage says its “full coverage” but it really is light coverage. I use it super sparingly so again, this will last you a good 6 months. It pairs very well with the primer & I love this stuff for days when I want very minimal makeup. Think primer, bb cream, & mascara. 🙂 I use shade “light.”
Step 3. Mineral Foundation
This stuff is the foundation of an oily skin girl’s dreams!! It honestly is the only powder foundation I will even let near my skin. It has incredible build-able coverage, is natural AKA no nasty crap, and best of all doesn’t clog pores!! You know when you’re wearing makeup and you come home from a long day, only to wash your face and find a face of new pimples?? Yeah, well I definitely have been there (lots when I was using Mac Studio Fix Foundation– insert eye roll emoji). This foundation is the OPPOSITE of that!! It really is ideal. Do yourself a favor and try this stuff if you have acne prone skin & thank me later!!! I use shade “amber” in the winter and “golden glow” in the summer.
So there we have it! This is my go-to routine for foundation and creating a perfectly primed canvas for makeup.
On another note, wish us luck on this road-trip!! I’ll definitely be blogging the whole time, thank you IPhone hotspot!
