It’s been awhile, but I’m back!

Whew, it really has been awhile!  I had to take an unplanned hiatus due to being away on business so long, then when I got home, I worked TONS of overtime for several weeks, so I’m just now getting back in the swing of having a life after work.  Hope everyone is well!

I am struggling with my little furry friends tonight, Piper is wreaking havoc throughout the house, and Mr. Face is laying on the desk as I type with his paw on the caps lock key.  He keeps pressing it at random times, makes typing interesting!  Look out for a few posts from me in the coming days, I have a lot to share!

Checking in from Philly!

Hey guys!  I am here in Philadelphia working hard, and I have not had much time for an update, so I just thought I’d check in and let you all know that I’m here and having a great time!

Tomorrow is another first for me, because we’ll be traveling to New Jersey with the company (I’ve never been!!)  A big group of us are going to check things out.

There are so many things I want to share with you all, but I have not had an opportunity to sit down and type anything or even take that many photos yet.  Soon, soon!!  Hope you are all doing well, my lovelies!!  I am late for bed now, but I will get back soon….

My first business trip!

I feel like a grown-up with this news!  I am officially going on my first business trip to Philadelphia.  FOR SEVEN WEEKS!!!  I’ll be working on a huge design project there.  This is a big thing for me, I’m going to meet some of my colleagues from around the country, and I couldn’t be happier.  I’m really excited for this opportunity, I can’t wait to learn a little more about my job and collaborate with my peers.

It’s slightly bittersweet, because I’m going to miss Shawn and Piper so much, because we are always absolutely inseparable on the weekends.  I’ve never spent a night away from Shawn, unless he was just too caught up with playing video games to come to bed!  Lucky for us, I get to come back for the week of Thanksgiving and the weeks of Christmas and New Years.  So we’ll make it work.  I have a couple of things up my sleeve, like video conferencing with him from my hotel room via Skype, sending photo and video texts from my new iPhone (!) and a couple of other tricks that I can’t share just yet.  And he’s asked for me to bring him back a cheesesteak on one of my trips home, so that should be fun to get through security, haha!

I can’t wait to share some of the cool sights and experiences of Philly with you guys.  It will be my first time in Philadelphia, and I’m planning on hopping over to NYC for a little visit or two while I’m there.

I have so much to do before I leave…from packing, to finding my winter gear, to preparing the apartment for my absence, to trying to make sure I have enough business casual clothes to get me through (I don’t.)  So I’m going to be shopping for some professional clothes, winter gear, and fun accessories on my first weekend up there.  (A little side note about me–I’ve never been in snow more than about 2 inches deep, so I’m hoping I get to experience some winter weather while I’m there!  I hate the cold, but I do love snow.)  I bought some suitcases the other day, and they should arrive mid-week.  Wanna take a peek at what I got?

Heys Quad 3 Piece set-FuschiaAren’t they fabulous??  They’re so me, and I love them.  I will feel much better when they arrive and I can start packing my bags.  I’m so afraid I’ll forget something, but I’m sure that’s bound to happen anyway.

So it’s a busy but very very exciting time around here!!  I have to mentally prep myself, and make sure I get enough sleep, rest, and eat right before I leave, because my body is notorious for rebelling when I have pushed it just a little too hard.  Stress and lack of sleep get to me, so I’m going to try my best to stay right on my normal schedule.

This is the thing (along with landing a day job with no weekends) that has made me feel most like a bona-fide adult.  What was it that made you feel like a real grown-up?  If yours was a business trip, where was your first business trip to?

LAAFF in Asheville

Filed under: Uncategorized — loveinsideandout @ 4:43 pm

You may have noticed my absence, since we were away all weekend.  We left Saturday morning to go to Asheville for the wedding of some friends of ours.  The wedding was absolutely gorgeous, and a lot of fun (more on that later this week.)  While we were in Asheville, we went to get some breakfast on Sunday morning.  The restaurant had a 30 minute wait, so we walked the streets of Asheville while we waited.  As we strolled down a street, we noticed people in awesome costumes setting up for something.  We stopped a girl in a purple wig with a purple tutu and asked what was going on.  She said, “The LAAFF starts in just a few minutes!  You should stick around and join us for some fun!”  LAAFF stands for Lexington Avenue Arts and Fun Festival.  We promised we would be back after breakfast…and dashed off to make our reservation.

We ate at the Over Easy Cafe in Asheville.  It was absolutely amazing.  The breakfast was to die for, and the atmosphere was very cool as well.  I loved the screen door, such a nice touch!  The bar was very artistic:

As we walked in the front door, we noticed a free newspaper that described the LAAFF in more detail…look how funny!

Here’s me waiting for our food to come

We loved the art for sale on the walls, it was like a cool little art gallery and restaurant in one!  The restaurant was amazing, we both were blown away by our food.  I had a basic breakfast:  scrambled eggs, bacon, cheese grits, and a biscuit with apple butter.  It was delicious.  Shawn got the juevos rancheros, and he really enjoyed his, too.  Cool music, and awesome service made us wish we had an “Over Easy Cafe” in Atlanta!

I’ll have more on the LAAFF festival shortly…stay tuned!!

Chipmunk steals from bird feeder…

So I’ve got a little something I’m working on and I can’t do a full post tonight, but I thought I’d share with you something my wonderful boyfriend discovered today while he was looking out the window.

A few weeks ago, we got a bird feeder and set it up outside the bedroom window, where our cat Mr. Face likes to sit for hours and stare (basically at nothing.) We set it up to entertain our cat and didn’t think we were getting much business until this week, when the seed level started going down rapidly. Neither of us have seen any animals there at the feeder, so we thought it was birds. Then Shawn saw this little guy today:

We’ve known about our tiny little furry neighbor for quite some time, he has a network of tunnels right outside our bedroom window, and we had seen him dashing this way or that when taking Piper our for walks. Now we know he’s a huge fan of the birdseed.   Here’s another photo of him digging in to some tasty seeds:

He’s pretty daring to get all the way up there, wouldn’t you say?  Have you seen any funny or interesting animal stunts lately?

Just call me Martha

I absolutely LOVE to cook breakfast for my man on the weekends.  It really makes him happy, and it is very tasty for me, as well.  We just got finished eating our breakfast this morning, and I thought I’d share some of my “greatest hits” with you.

eggs, bacon, blueberries, pears

This is Shawn’s favorite, a classic.  He almost always requests some kind of eggs, bacon, and I usually throw in some toast and fruit to keep us healthy and get some fiber in us.

french toast with cherries

Here is a crowd-pleaser:  French toast!  I even made it with a fresh loaf of Publix mountain bread, thick sliced.  (If you haven’t tried this bread, it is AMAZING!  The best bread I’ve ever had.  Shawn is absolutely addicted, and I suggest getting a loaf if you have a Publix anywhere near you.)  I had to twist Shawn’s arm a bit to let me make French toast, because he doesn’t like sweets very much at all.  We really enjoyed it, and I had leftovers to take to work for breakfast during the week, which made me happy.  I used Martha Stewart’s “Perfect French Toast” recipe, which you can find here:  http://www.marthastewart.com/recipe/perfect-french-toast?autonomy_kw=french%20toast

This morning I made a turkey cheddar scramble with a slice of whole wheat toast and bacon.  It was pretty tasty, but I don’t have any photos of it…we were hungry!  We are huge bacon fans, I can’t even tell you how much we love bacon.  I would eat it for every meal if I could!

What kind of culinary adventures in the kitchen have you had?  Do you like a hot breakfast, or are you a cereal kind of breakfast-eater?
