The flooded Chattahoochee River video

On Monday, the river next to our house was flooded because of the torrential rains for more than 7 straight days in our area.  Shawn got a wild hair and decided to walk to the river (even though I begged him not to, people were getting washed away and drowning in the flooding!)  He took this video of his adventures with our waterproof video camera:

This is not nearly as bad as it ended up, the building that you can see in the video ended up completely submerged in the floodwaters, and the river crested at 28.1 feet, just shy of the record 29 feet in the early 1900’s.  Let’s hope this never happens again!  We’re all a little on edge again today here in Atlanta, because we’re having another bout of severe storms, but hopefully this won’t be as bad as last week.

One thing this has taught me is that we need to be prepared for the worst at all times, and we need to get flood insurance when we buy our house someday.  Some people in our community lost EVERYTHING.  My heart truly goes out to those people.
